At Kemp, our team is at the heart of what we do. In this month’s meet the team we’re introducing Russell, one of our skilled land surveyors who has been part of Kemp Chartered Land and Engineering since January 2020.
Russell’s journey into surveying began at Glasgow University, where he studied Land and Hydrographic Surveying. This solid foundation led him to a career in the industry, and moving to join Kemp over 5 years ago. Drawn to the company’s reputation as a well-established, family-run business in the Southwest, Russell saw an opportunity to grow and develop his skills.
One of the aspects Russell enjoys most about working at Kemp is the company’s commitment to innovation. From keeping up with the latest survey technology to tackling diverse projects, every day presents a chance to learn something new. As the company grows, so do the opportunities to gain experience with cutting-edge tools and techniques, making each project both exciting and rewarding.
No two days are the same for Russell. One day might involve Measured Building Surveying (MBS) to provide detailed floor plans and elevations, while the next could be scanning a bustling high street to extract topographic data. Whether using traditional surveying methods or advanced scanning technology, Russell thrives on the variety and challenges that come with the job.
Among the many projects Russell has worked on, one of the most memorable was the survey he conducted at the Eden Project following a landslide. “Being part of a project from its initial stages to completion was incredibly rewarding, knowing that my work contributed to vital changes in critical infrastructure.” Russell shared.
Outside of work, Russell enjoys spending time outdoors. Paddleboarding, walking the dog, and family days out are some of his favourite pastimes. And if Russell wasn’t surveying, what would he be doing? He could see himself pursuing a career in horticulture, perhaps in garden design.
At Kemp, we’re proud to have a team of passionate and skilled professionals like Russell. If you’re interested in a career in surveying, we’d love to hear from you. Get in touch to learn more about opportunities with us!
