Specialist Surveying Services for Schools, Colleges & Universities

Managing, maintaining, refurbishing or developing an education estate depends on accurate information.

At Kemp Engineering & Surveying, we provide land, building, engineering and utility surveying services for schools, colleges, universities and other education facilities.

From existing building surveys and topographical surveys through to utility mapping, setting out, as-built verification and digital survey data, we give you the information needed to plan and deliver projects with confidence.

Why Education Organisations Need Accurate Survey Data

Education estates change constantly. Buildings are extended, refurbished and repurposed, new facilities go up, and existing infrastructure needs maintaining.

Accurate information about your buildings, land and underground services gives you a solid basis for decisions and design work.

Surveying Services for Education Projects

We offer surveying services that can support an education project from initial investigation through to construction and ongoing estate management.

Measured Building Surveys

Accurate floor plans, elevations and sections for existing education buildings, including schools, colleges, universities and other facilities. Our surveyors capture existing building information for refurbishment, extension, redevelopment, maintenance and design projects.

Topographical Surveys

Detailed topographical surveys of the land surrounding and within education sites, capturing levels, structures, boundaries, vegetation, hardstanding and other visible features, to support planning, design and development.

Utility Surveys & Mapping

Identifying and mapping underground utilities and services before excavation, construction or development work begins. This matters most on established education campuses, where infrastructure has often developed piecemeal over many years and accurate records are essential for safe project planning.

Setting Out & Engineering Surveys

Setting out and engineering survey support throughout construction, to help ensure works are positioned and built in line with the design.

As-Built & Adoption Surveys

Recording completed works and verifying construction against design requirements, for handover, compliance, future maintenance and asset management.

3D Surveys, BIM & Digital Data

Capturing existing buildings and spaces using laser scanning and other modern surveying technology, with outputs suited to design, BIM, documentation and ongoing estate management. Where appropriate, we can provide CAD, Revit, point-cloud and other digital formats.

Our Education Surveying Process

We aim to give education clients accurate information while working around the practical demands of live school, college and university sites.

We start by understanding your project, your objectives and how the survey information will be used, and discuss the site, existing information, access, programme and any constraints so we can recommend the right survey approach.

Before attending site, we plan around the practical requirements of working in an education environment; access, working areas, site activity and any restrictions that could affect the survey. Our staff are DBS checked, helping education clients feel confident when we are working on school, college and university sites.

Our surveyors attend site with appropriate equipment, which may include total stations, GPS/GNSS equipment, laser scanning and other specialist technology depending on the requirements. We capture the information the project needs accurately and efficiently, while working safely around the day-to-day running of the site.

After the site survey, our team processes and checks the collected information to produce accurate, usable survey data, in formats including CAD, PDF, Revit and other digital outputs depending on your project.

We deliver the completed survey information in a format suited to your architects, engineers, contractors, estates team or other stakeholders. On larger or more complex projects, we can also provide supporting survey information and reporting.

Our involvement doesn’t have to end when the survey is delivered; we’re available to answer questions, clarify information and provide further survey support as your project progresses.

Areas We Cover

Kemp Engineering & Surveying works principally across Devon, Cornwall and the wider South West, including on education and other complex facilities. Local knowledge and responsive support matter when you’re working on a live estate.

Whether you need a survey of a single school building, an existing college campus or a larger university estate, we can tailor our approach to your project.

Why are we different from other Education Surveying companies?

It starts with experience. Kemp has been delivering surveying and engineering services since 1988, working across construction, infrastructure, buildings and complex operational sites, including projects with Cornwall College Group, Exeter University and the Eden Project, alongside major contractors, consultants, local authorities and infrastructure organisations.

We pair that experience with modern surveying technology and in-house services, so we can support projects from initial survey through to construction and ongoing estate requirements. Our staff are DBS-checked, providing additional reassurance when working within live education environments.
