Meet Dwight, one of our Trainee Surveyors here at Kemp. Dwight joined the team in August last year and, in a short space of time, has already settled in well and become a valued part of the utility team.
Dwight began his career in the telecoms industry, where he built up more than 15 years of experience. Prior to joining Kemp, he worked as a Design Surveyor for a fibre company, where he developed his technical knowledge and sparked his interest in pursuing surveying more broadly. Looking for a new challenge and the opportunity to grow his skill set, Dwight made the move to Kemp in 2025.
One of the standout aspects of working at Kemp for Dwight has been the team environment. From the outset, he’s found everyone to be welcoming, accommodating, and supportive, which made his transition into the company smooth and enjoyable. That strong team culture has played a big part in helping him settle into his role quickly.
“The team have all been so accommodating and welcoming, which really made my start at Kemp seamless.”
Like many of our team, no two days are ever the same for Dwight. He explained that he doesn’t have a “typical” day, as the work is constantly changing – something he really enjoys. The variety keeps the role interesting and provides plenty of opportunities to learn, especially as he continues to gain experience as a trainee surveyor.
Although still early in his time at Kemp, one of Dwight’s most memorable experiences so far has been working nights. Night work presents its own challenges and has been a valuable learning experience, making it a standout part of his role to date.
If he wasn’t working in surveying, Dwight would likely still be in the telecoms industry, where his career first began. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with family and friends and staying active. He’s passionate about the outdoors and takes part in road cycling, road and trail running, swimming, and continues to play rugby for Paignton Rugby Club.
Travelling is another big passion of Dwight’s, particularly when it involves scuba diving. As a certified PADI Rescue Diver, he’s already dived in some incredible locations, including Perth in Australia, Bali with manta rays, and completing his PADI Open Water certification in the Dominican Republic. His aim is to continue travelling the world and diving in as many beautiful locations as possible, so watch this space for his next adventure.
