Seeka Completes Utility Survey at the Cornish Seal Sanctuary

It’s safe to say the Seeka team were a little more excited than usual about this job! It’s not every day we swap roads and car parks for seals and puffins, but that’s exactly what we did during a recent visit to the Cornish Seal Sanctuary in Gweek.

Our surveyors spent the day at the Sanctuary carrying out a full utility survey, using Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and Electromagnetic Location (EML) to map the buried services on site.

The Cornish Seal Sanctuary, run by the Sea Life Trust, is home to dozens of rescued seals, sea lions, penguins, and other marine animals. The site has a mix of natural terrain, water features, and historic infrastructure which made it a unique and rewarding environment to survey. And on a personal level this project gave our team a great feeling to know the work undertook will help the Sanctuary look after their rescued animals and plan any future improvements safely.

“It’s definitely one of the more memorable locations we’ve worked in,” said Rich “There’s something special about being surrounded by wildlife while doing our job, especially knowing our work helps support the maintenance and development of such an important local attraction.”

The results of the survey will help the Sanctuary plan future works safely and efficiently, ensuring any improvements to enclosures, utilities, or visitor facilities can be carried out with confidence and minimal disruption to the animals.

As a team, we love getting involved in local projects that make a difference to the community, and this one was a real treat to be part of.
