When people think of surveying, they often picture our teams out on site carrying out topographical surveys, setting out, or monitoring projects across the South West. But behind every project update, social media post, newsletter, and project video is another team helping to showcase the work being done.
This month, we’re introducing Caitlin and James, the team responsible for creating the blogs, social media content, newsletters, photography, and videos that showcase the work happening across the business.
Meet Caitlin
Caitlin has been part of the Kemp team for nearly two years as Marketing Manager and is responsible for the company’s day-to-day marketing, from managing social media and writing blogs to producing the monthly newsletter and creating content that showcases projects across the South West.
After finishing her A Levels, Caitlin wasn’t entirely sure what career path she wanted to take and decided to have a gap year. During that time, she was offered a part-time role in digital marketing, something she quickly realised she really enjoyed. Rather than heading to university, she decided to complete a digital marketing apprenticeship, starting the career, she has today.
When asked what she enjoys most about working at Kemp, Caitlin says it’s the creative freedom that comes with the role, alongside the people she works with every day.
“As a creative person, I love having the freedom to create blogs, social posts and new content ideas. But it also has to be the team – everyone’s really supportive and we always have a great time in the office.”
A typical day varies, but it’s usually spent creating content for the website, writing blogs, planning and scheduling social media posts, producing the monthly newsletter, and working closely with James to organise photography and video content from the latest projects.
One of Caitlin’s proudest achievements since joining Kemp has been establishing the company’s monthly newsletter. Before she joined, newsletters had been produced on and off, but today they’re sent consistently every month to nearly 3,000 subscribers, helping keep clients and industry contacts up to date with the latest company news.
If she hadn’t pursued a career in marketing, Caitlin says she would most likely still be working in a creative role, although becoming a primary school teacher is something she always thought she would enjoy.
Outside of work, Caitlin spends as much time outdoors as possible, whether that’s riding her horse, Cobbles, walking her cocker spaniel Fred, or heading off for weekends away in the campervan.
If she could travel anywhere in the world, a safari is firmly at the top of the list, with Botswana or Tanzania being dream destinations for the chance to experience incredible wildlife in its natural environment.
Working alongside Caitlin is James, who joined Kemp in April 2021. While Caitlin focuses on marketing strategy, written content and social media, James is usually the one behind the camera, capturing the photography and video that brings Kemp’s projects to life.
Meet James
James joined Kemp Chartered Land and Engineering Surveyors in 2021, bringing with him a creative background spanning photography, digital art, film and marketing.
His creative journey began with a passion for painting and drawing before discovering photography after receiving his first SLR camera at just 11 years old. After studying at art school and working in a variety of roles in Exeter and London, he moved to Paris to complete a two-year course in digital art and film. This led to a role with a Parisian marketing agency, alongside freelance work for advertising companies and graphic novel publishers.
After returning to the UK, James worked within the marketing team for a well-known motorcycle brand before spotting an opportunity to join Kemp as a website builder and content creator. He joined the business in April 2021 and has been capturing projects across the South West ever since.
When asked what he enjoys most about working at Kemp, James says it’s the variety of locations and projects he gets to experience.
“One day I might be perched on a cliff in North Cornwall; the next, I could be in a tower block in Plymouth.”
A typical day could involve travelling to site to photograph or film some of the team, editing video, processing images in Lightroom, or helping with administrative tasks back in the office. Occasionally, he also swaps the camera for surveying equipment, assisting the team as chainman on monitoring surveys.
One of James’ proudest achievements at Kemp was helping deliver the launch of the company’s new website in 2021, creating a platform that better showcases the business, its services and the projects delivered across the South West.
If he wasn’t working at Kemp, James says he’d probably still be following a creative path, either working for another marketing agency or painting landscapes somewhere in the South of France.
Outside of work, James enjoys visiting France, heading out on his motorcycle, collecting vintage vinyl records, attending live music events, and continuing his lifelong passion for art and photography.
If he could travel anywhere in the world, Japan would be his destination of choice, combining its unique culture, stunning scenery and, as James puts it, “the camera shops.”
